How do I make a network computer into a standalone one?

I have a computer (XP Pro) formally a network computer. I would like to return it as a stand alone unit. No user accounts or passwords. Where do I start?

    If you cannot logon as an administrative level user, then you cannot remove it from the domain proper.  If this is an old PC from a job, truthfully you would be better off formatting it and installing everything you need on it fresh.  I realize you may have wanted to keep the programs and such that were on it - but they probably aren't yours anyway *and* when you remove it from the domain - you would either have to import the user you exported (F.A.S.T.) or you would have to rebuild a new user from scratch.  The 'tattooed' group policies also might make things rough on you as a sole user.

    Format and start fresh.

    ·         Was the computer on a domain network?

    ·         What is the exact issue that you are facing?

    Follow these steps:

    a)    Make sure you have administrative rights to the computer. If you do not have admin rights you will not be able to proceed. Check with the network administrator to make sure you have the ability to remove the PC from the domain.

    b)    Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties" from the menu. Click on the "Computer Name" tab and click the "Change" button.

    c)    Click the "Workgroup" button and type the name of the workgroup you wish to join. This can be any name, but you will need to supply a name.

    d)    Click "OK" to proceed. You will see a pop-up box asking you for the user name and password--enter the network credentials into those boxes and click "OK." After a few minutes, you will receive a message saying that the change has been completed.

    e)    Click "Yes" when asked to restart your computer. When the computer reboots, it will no longer be a member of the domain.

    The computer was on a Domain Network. At this point I am not able to logon as Administrator, a well meaning employee disabled the built-in admin account and I can only login as the original user.
