Microsoft Help and Support (HelpPane.exe) Blank Page Problem

Recently, I've had a problem with Help and Support on Win7 x32.

When I open Help and Support a Blank Page appears with no other controls.

Tried:

  • System Restore (Not Helped)
  • Sfc /Scannow (Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violation)
  • regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
  • regsvr32 HelpPaneProxy.dll
  • regsvr32 HHActiveX.dll

Would like to avoid:

Reinstalling Windows 7 (Only if that is the only solution)

Windows for home | Previous Windows versions | Windows update

I've fixed the problem

Quote by Daniel Martín:

Browse to this registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface{8cec592c-07a1-11d9-b15e-000d56bfe6ee}\TypeLib and change the (Default) value to the following string:

{8cec5860-07a1-11d9-b15e-000d56bfe6ee}

Maybe you need to take ownership of that key from TrustedInstaller. If you receive an access denied error and you don't know how to take ownership of a registry key, post back and I will give you instructions.

    Hi Zexdestroyer,

In order to fix the corrupted files found by System File Checker tool which were not repaired, follow the steps from the article.

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Thank you for the reply Sandeep Ghatuary

    • Sfc /Scannow (Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violation)

As I wrote at the beginning, I've run this tool and find no integrity violation, therefore, sfcdetails.txt is not created?

Hi Sandeep Ghatuary, thank you for the reply, but unfortunately none of this methods worked.

Method 1: Perform a scan using Microsoft safety scanner.

    Nothing found**.**

Method 2: Perform a disk cleanup.

Cleaned everything in it, but still no luck.

Method 3: Create a new user account.

I've created a new administrator account, and the problem persist there as-well.

What I think is the problem is that I'm missing some file in windows which cant be found/repaired by SFC /scannow or some registry file/s that is missing which is used for Windows Help and Support to show its content.

And I don't know if its related, but some time before I've noticed Windows Help and Support Blank Page I've had an error is the event log.

The description for Event ID 1904 from source HHCTRL cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    about:blank
