    Hi,

Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Please follow the methods mentioned below.

    Method 1:

Please run the system file checker tool by using the link mentioned below.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Method 2:

Let's try stopping and restarting the Volume Shadow Copy service.

NOTE: It is not recommended to turn off Volume Shadow Copy. It manages and implements Volume Shadow Copies used for backup and other purposes. If this service is stopped, shadow copies will be unavailable for backup and the backup may fail. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. System Restore points would be deleted when Volume Shadow Copy service is stopped.

    a. Click on Start, type services and press enter.

    b. Locate the service "Volume Shadow Copy" and right click and click "Stop".

Once the service is stopped, please follow the same steps and click on start to enable the service.

hi again, it seems to happen sometimes on startup but not every startup. When it does happen it deletes all my restore points too. I read that it may have something to do with dual booting with Windows 7 and Windows XP.

I started VSC and restarted the computer and the VSC service was stopped again. The VSC service depends on RPC service which is already started.

I went to volume shadow copy service and it was already stopped. Startup type was set to manual. Is this the default setting?
