cannot exit a program in the Task Manager screen

I am running Windows 7.I recently installed "emule", did not like it so uninstalled it a few days ago. Have restarted the computer since. However Task Manager shows emule and 2 other associated programs, "Shareaza" and "Ares" are still running, it states that Ares is on line. The task manager is unable to end any of them when I hit the "end" button. When i shut down, Windows comes up with a mssge that emule is not responding, and on my request is forceably shuts it down, and the other 2 programs. When i start up again and I open the Task Manager it is at first blank but after a minute or two emule, Shareaza and Ares populate the screen as before, and as previously, Task Manager is unable to end them.

On carrying out a search for programs Windows located emule under "Conime.exe" but i cannot delete it as a window comes up and says the program is running so should be shut down first, which of course I can't do. So now I'm stumped. Please, how do I stop emule so that I can delete it? Appreciate your help.

Thanks. Chris.

    Hi,

    1. Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
    2. What is the exact error message received on the computer?

**Method 1:**This issue might occur if the system is infected by virus, So you may perform a Microsoft Safety Scanner to check if the system is free from viruses infection.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

**Disclaimer:**If you run the virus scan the program that is infected with virus will get deleted. So you have to reinstall the program. Also if the files and folders are affected with virus then they might even get deleted

**Method 2:**You may also perform a clean boot and check if you are able to exit the program from task manager.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 7 in the above Knowledge Base article.
