I recently had to do a refresh install on my xp laptop. I cannot access Windows update now that support has terminated for sp1 and 2. I need to load sp2 to then load sp3. I have another xp machine with sp3 and can access updates there. Is there any way and any site that I can download sp2 on a disc and then install on the laptop. I am not seeing this on Microsofts site.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

    Hi,

you can downlaod SP2 for XP here (choose right language):

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=28

and here you can download SP3 for XP (choose right language):

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24

and how can you see from the "System requirements" - you can install directly SP3, it means, that it is not necessary to install SP2 before SP3.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system

    Follow-up...

Open Add/Remove Programs & make sure the Show Updates box at the top is checked. Now scroll down & confirm that ALL of the following updates are listed:

        • KB2570947, KB2616676; KB2559049, KB2567680, KB2544521, KB2393802 & KB971029

Most will be displayed as Security Update for Windows XP followed by the KB number in parentheses.

If IE8 is installed, two will be displayed as Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 followed by the KB number in parentheses.

The Microsoft Update Catalog still has the Service Packs available for download for Windows XP.  It requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher to use the catalog.
