Hi all, it appears that WMP has a default seek time of 15 seconds (when a file is playing and you press either the left or right cursor to move forward or back). Is there anyway to adjust this?I am running XP Pro, WMP 11.

    Hi,

    Maybe this will help :

    Windows Media Player 11 Guide

    http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Windows-Media-Player-11-Guide.html

    See "Playback controls area"

"seek slider. Pressing LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW moves the playback backward or forward by one twentieth of the length of the track. If you add SHIFT or CTRL to these keystrokes, then the distance moved becomes one four hundredth or a fifth of the length of the track respectively."

You might get other options, such as suggested add-ins to control seek and or other methods,

    by checking Media type forums.

Is there any chance of a response? I'm afraid the first was not helpful.

"however WMP seems to do this at default intervals of around 25 seconds. I would like to see if I can adjust this to a specified period, namely 5 seconds."

Hi again Samhrutha, a minor correction to my post above.

It seems the default seek time is not determined by a set time (i.e. 25 seconds as stated above), rather a percentage of the total file length.

This means that for longer files the seek time is greater, but for smaller files it will be far less, perhaps as short as 1-2 seconds.

Therefore, my question is, can this default setting be adjusted, either to an arbitrary length of 5 seconds, or perhaps scalable (as it is now), but no longer than 5 seconds?

    Thanks Samhrutha,

I am running Service Pack 3.

Just to clarify, I am not referring to the play speed settings, but the seek settings (that apply regardless of the play speed).

I did try your suggestion regardless, however this did not address my key issue.

Specifically,  I am talking about the function that allows you to quickly move (or scan) forward or backward through an audio file.

As I see it, I currently have two options to seek when playing an audio file:

    1. Click the mouse on the seek bar to toggle backwards or forwards at a nominated/random points in the file, or
    2. Use the right of left cursor to navigate forwards or backwards at default intervals.

It is option 2 that I prefer to use, however WMP seems to do this at default intervals of around 25 seconds. I would like to see if I can adjust this to a specified period, namely 5 seconds.

    Is this possible?

Unfortunately option 1 is not practical as I often scan through multiple audio files at once, therefore using the mouse is quite tedious!

    Appreciate your help,

    Dave Werner.

    Hi,

    · Which is the service pack installed on the computer?

    · Do you observe this happening when playing file from internet or is it the same when playing from media library?

    Check the below settings:

    a.     Begin playing a file.

    b.     Click the arrow below the Now Playing tab, point to Enhancements, and then click Play Speed Settings.

    c.     Move the Play Speed slider to the speed at which you want to play the content, or click the Slow, Normal, or Fast link.

    d.     To select speeds between the labeled play speeds, in the Enhancements pane, clear the Snap slider to common speeds check box.

    e.     To hide the settings, click the Close button in the Enhancements pane.
