I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Edkition and need a driver for an external Maxtor 250 GB OneTouch 4 Mini hard drive.  It seems like the 250 GB version is the only one of this series of external drives is not supported for either 32-bit or 64-bit systems.  Why is that?  What can I do to use this device?

    Hi,

You need to check with SeaGate/Maxtor Support, their on-line documentaton and drivers,

and ask in their forums about known issues.

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Family - there are drivers for the drive and to remake the CD.

External USB hard drives are assigned the driver USBSTOR.SYS from Microsoft.  However, if the operating system cannot read the full identifier string from the bridge card, you should update to the latest USB chipset drivers from the computer/motherboard manufacturer.

There are no drivers for that drive from Seagate.  If the drive was locked on a Vista 32-bit or earlier system, you'll need to unlock it before trying to use the drive on Windows 7.  The drive does work on Win 7.
