This looked promising and I ended up with iCloud in my Control Panel. But when I open it  I consistently get this message:

After much research I've been unable to find a solution.

BTW, I'm now wondering if I need it anyway. Can I not simply go to www.icloud.com?

    Thanks a great help, thanks.

However it does not work with iCloud version 2. The program installs but then it crashes when you try to run it.

    Worked ok with iCloud 1.1

There's an easy hack to get it installed on Windows XP, and I can confirm it works well, full explanation here (this also sits on many Apple discussion boards): http://xlii.be/s/1ii which includes links to download all the files you need.

Summary of the hack as follows:

    Requirements:

    iTunes 5.10

Unpacking program e.g. 7-Zip or WinRar

    Orca MSI editor

The iCloud setup hack for Windows XP:

    1. DownloadiCloud Control Panel for Windows(Update: Apple version has been updated to Version 2.0 since this post – links to copies of the original version 1.1 /files are above)
    2. OpeniCloudSetup.exe file with WinRar or 7-Zip and extract.
    3. Navigate to and open the iCloud.msi or iCloud64.msi (for 64bit systems) with Orca.
    4. In the left table select LaunchCondition. Then change in the right table “VersionNT>; = 600” to “VersionNT>; = 200” and Save.
    5. Run modified iCloud.msi and install.
    6. Run iCloud Control Panel, located in the Windows Control Panel, and set up as you want.

    And you’re done.
