I have an HP with a HP w2007 20 inch monitor.  I replaced the cable yesterday and have not been able to reset the display to the 1680 x 1024 resolution the monitor wants.  I tried downloading a new driver from HP.  But is seems to be something in windows 7 that is causing the problem.  The highest the machine will set to is 1280 x 960.  Everything is oversized and the screen is distorted.  I try to set the resolution higher and get an error message.

Help, and. please stay off the tech jargon.

    Hi,

    1.       What is the exact and complete error message you get when you try to set higher resolution?

    2.       What is the make and model number of the graphic card?

The issue could be with the cable as the issue began after changing the cable, I would suggest that you change the cable and check if the issue persists.

    1)      Error message, “Input signal out of range, reset to 1680 x 1050, 60 Hz”

However that is not one of the options displayed on the pull down menu and there is no way to manually enter the choice.

    2)      I can find the software driver (NVIDIA, GeForce 6150SE).  System info seems not to be where is was in older windows.

How can a cable be the problem if it fits the same serial port?  That makes no sense ( at least to a none techie like me) .

By the way I updated all the drivers in attempts to clear up the problem.   Thanks for any insight.
