Windows Media Player slow to respond

Been having a problem with Windows Media Player for about a week.  When I play an audio file, DVD, or movie file, the media player is slow to respond to any mouse click commands such as adjusting the volume, or double clicking to maximise/shrink the window, pause etc.  As if this wasn't annoying enough, when I maximise the window, the command bar at the bottom of the screen is supposed to vanish after a few seconds, but it just stays on the screen, plus the cursor stays on too and the little blue circle that appears next to it that usually shows that the pc is working in the background.  The circle flashes on and off for a couple of seconds at a time.  This only happens when I use Media Player, and It doesn't make any difference if I am running other programs or not.  I am running Windows 7 and I have no idea how to fix this problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi AmandaScott,

·         Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

Follow these methods.

Method 1: Run the media player troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter

Method 2: Perform a Clean Boot to see if there is any software conflict as clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting steps, follow Step 7 in the link to return the computer to Normal startup mode.

Thanks so much for your help! Method 2 pinpointed the issue (even though it was a lon and tedious process!) Turns out the itunes is causing the Media player issue, although I don't understand quite how the process works because even though I have itunes disabled in the startup tab, itunes still runs when I open it. Anyway, thanks again, this was driving me nuts.  It must have started after the last itunes automatic update (at a guess), as there was one recently.

Still having problems with Media Player, still doing the same thing as before, (The problem seems to go away after Media Player had been running for about 10 or 15 minutes. But now media player has changed it's appearance when it's opened and it has the control buttons on the bottom left hand side of the screen against a blue background, but when I change to full screen, it goes back to the normal control buttons in the centre  bottom of the screen.  I was going to show an image of what it looks like, but I can't attach any images to this email it seems.

    regards,

    Amanda.
