Problem installing EPSON TM-U220B (usb interface) on Windows 7 64bit

I have recently purchased receipt printers (Epson TM-U220B[usb connection]) to use in conjunction with a POS program. I am running Windows 7 64bit HP

I am unable to even print a test page from windows to them at the moment (although I am able to print a Self Test direct from the printer).

Here are the steps that I have taken:

-Disconnected the printer.

-Uninstalled all EPSON software & restarted the computer.

-Reinstalled EPSON Advanced Printer Driver V4.52 (APD_452E) with these configuration settings:

Setup Type

Minimum

Printer Configuration

Add EPSON TM-U220 Receipt

EPSON TM-U220 Receipt[US]

Create a USB port

-Connected printer.

-Windows then installs device driver automatically with the following commentary:

EPSON UB-U02III - Searching Windows Update

>

EPSON USB Controller For TM/BA/EU Printers - Ready to use

At this point the printer is shown in Devices and Printers under Unspecified with the name UB-U02III (which it looks like is the model designation for the USB adapter board on the back of the printer). The driver the device is using is EPSON USB Controller For TM/BA/EU Printers. In Device manager this shows up under USB controllers and the EPSON UB-U02III isn't mentioned anywhere.

The installed printer (installed via APD driver) EPSON TM-U220 Receipt printer is showing up as Not available in its status.

What am I doing wrong?? The driver is downloaded directly from Epson on their product page for the U220 (https://download.epson-biz.com/modul...&pcat=5&pid=42).

Incidently I get an identical result trying the above on an XP 32bit machine.

I hope this is concise and not to waffly!

Thanks

Mike

    Hi Mike,

    ·         Do you get any error message?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Disable the security software temporarily.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Follow the steps from the article.

    Why can't I print?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Why-cant-I-print

    Printer problems in Windows

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/printer-problems-in-windows

Method 3: Verify the print spooler service is started. If it is not started, start the service and check. Follow the steps below:

    a)    Click Start, type “services” on the start search box and press enter.

    b)    Scroll down and check for the above mentioned service (print spooler).

    c)    Double click on the services and start it if it is not started.

    d)    Click apply and ok.

Also refer the printer manual for more information.

    For reference:

Hi, im trying to install my Epson tm-u220b receipt printer to my windows 7 laptop, i have a website through which i print receipts for orders. Anyways, i've bought a wire of ebay, that converts the serial port that originally plugs in, into a usb (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310353150684?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649),

i've also downloaded the software from epsons website (APD_452E), i got through the steps  as such

    > minimum (recommended)

    >Add

    > i select the driver            "EPSON TM-U220 Receipt"

and  in port type "create a usb"

    >next

    >next

    >finish.

but when i go into my printer and devices, it says the printer is "not available" it also doesnt print a test page when i try, can you help me?

Well.. I got a simple solution..  It gave me trouble, saying "unknown device", it got fixed changing the cable of the printer (usb cable), plus I reinstalled the printer drivers after, uninstalling them.

    PROBLEM SOLVED

The issue was bound to the fact that when I initially plugged in the printer without the Epson drivers installed, windows created registry entries relating to the hardware ID and associated the wrong driver. Even when I uninstalled both the epson hardware and the windows associated driver it left the registry entries untouched so when I plugged the device in again it went straight to them.

I had to restore the factory install of windows to its initial state (but Im sure a restore point just before the printer was ever plugged in, or manually deleting all of the relevant reg keys would have sufficed). Then I had to install the driver before plugging in the printer. Otherwise nothing works ever.
