I enabled all services, did a reboot. Then i enabled Normal boot option in the general tab, restarted. Then i stopped some programs that i dont want at startup, restarted. Then restarted for one last time to check my luck. No problems at all. hope that was the problem and now its fixed
My computer freezes due to microsoft services
Hello to all,
I dont know if this is posted anywhere else or if im not in the correct department, if so please redirect me.
Now for the issue at hand. A few days ago i turned on my computer and it froze. It froze while showing the desktop (all shortcuts and icons were there) but when i put my cursor on the taskbar it would turn into the loading circle. I could click once on the desktop but then it would freeze too. CTRL+ALT+delete did not work, neither did windows button, alt f4 or anything else. Had to manually reboot using reboot button on tower. At first the only way to get it working again was to enter safe mode and restore system to a windows critical update. That fixed the problem only for that perticular reboot, if u restarted pc problem reoccured and had to do it all over again. After i saw that by selecting boot from last know configuration by pressing f8 at startup i was also able to bypass that problem but yet again only for that specific boot. I also tried system repair via boot and via windows CD but windows found no error (???). So i searched online for the problem and found a usefell thread on how to do a clean boot. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
After lot of restarts and lots of boot to last known configuration i came to the conclusion of the step 5 last paragraph. As a last step i rebooted from last good known configuration and saw which microsoft services where running and which were stopped. (I have come to reason that the problem is being caused by one of the stopped microsoft services-Am i correct in assuming that?) The problem is there are way too many stopped services and im asking if either anyone knows a way i can find out fast without having to restart every single time one by one and if someone else has had the same problem. (Oh and is there a way to list all the services not running).
My computer specs are these:
MS WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 32bit, (service pack 1 version 6.1 build 7601)
Intel core i7 cpu 860@ 2,80 ghz
Motherboard model: ms 7636 (version 1.80)
ram 4.00gb
graphics card NVIDIA gefroce GT 220
| Version: | 285.62 |
|---|---|
| Release Date: | 2011.10.24 |
All drivers have been updated via their respective websites and via windows update.
Ok i sat down and wrote all the windows system services that were stopped when i chose last good known configuration at reboot: (i am writing their services' name)

Hi,
Does the computer restart itself or does it require a hard shut off?
The services are stopped because they are not needed at the Startup. The services will start when required.
Try to run Microsoft Safety Scanner in Safe mode for any spyware or malware infection and check if it helps.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.
I would also suggest you to contact the system manufacturer for assistance with any faulty hardware issues.

2011-12-13T12:25:08+00:00 Ok an update on the situation. It seems to have worked from your solution. All it needed was safe mode and a full scan ( I was doing a quick scan). I restarted/rebooted from shut down several times without this problem appearing. I suppose it has been resolved. Should it reappear i will make a new petition. Thank you for the quick reply and for the solution.

No the computer does not restart itself. I have to hard shut it off via power button on tower. As for the malware i had microsoft security essentials swipe twice my drives as well as microsoft security scanner in safe mode. Also used the in-built malware discovery tools of windows. My drives according to the above are clean as a whistle. To be honest ever since i stopped all the mentioned windows services this event has not reappeared leading me to the conclusion that one of the services above is causing the problem....
