Recycle Bin doesn't update on the desktop

The help that has been provided on this question so far appears inadequate. Earlier on a very old thread I had had reported this to Mr. Ramesh Srinivasan as to why it was inadequate and Microsoft Answers has asked me to restart the thread afresh over here. So here goes.

Actually this is not of much a help. There has never been any problem with me when using default Icons.

The problem of the Recycle Bin not refreshing automatically comes up only after the default icons have been replaced by non default icons. The solution offered by the registry hack simply replaces the non default icons with the default icons.

Please offer a solution to this problem when using non default icons. I am on Windows 7 Professional platform.

Hi,

  1. Which registry fix have you tried?
  2. Which non-default icons are you using and does it happens with all non-Micrsoft icons?

If you have not tried the one mentioned below I would suggest you to go ahead and try the same.

a. Open the Registry Editor by going to the Start Menu and typing in Regedit. Click yes for UAC prompt.

b. Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/CLSID/ {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}/Default Icon c. In the right hand pane, double click on the (Default) string, and change the entry from this - %USERPROFILE%\Icons\blackhole.ico to this %USERPROFILE%\Icons\blackhole.ico,0NOTE: Instead of blackhole.ico, you will have your custom icon file name instead.

d. Click OK.

e. Repeat Step c for the empty and full string entries as well.

f. Close Regedit and the changes should apply without having to log off and on or restart. You can try it out by deleting something when it's Empty, and see if it changes to the Full custom icon.

The procedure outlined in the reply does not help to solve the problem. Incidentally I use the Administrator's Account.
