Canon imageFORMULA DR-3080CII USB Scanners not maintaining settings

We have five of these scanners.  We have recently upgraded to Windows 7 throughout the organization and have experienced some unforeseen issues with this scanner since the upgrade.  The scan panel for the scanner does not maintain its scanner settings if you change between 24 bit grayscale and black and white.  After you attempt to change it, it reverts back to the default.  Same thing with brightness and the other settings.  You can attempt to change any setting and after you make the change, then it reverts back instantly to the default setting.

We have tried upgrading and even downgrading driver versions.  This does not help and uninstalling and reinstalling does not help either.  I know Canon has discontinued this scanner model and besides their support has never been that good so even if they were to talk to you, chances for a favorable outcome are not good.

Any advice??

Go to here. They may be able to deal with compatibility issues.

You might also want to try installing your version 3.0 in Troubleshoot Compatibility mode

Right click on the setup file and select Troubleshoot compatibility from the menu.

Here's the solution from the Canon Software Engineers:

    1.  Click on the Start button

    2.  Type msconfig in search and press enter or go to Run and type msconfig and press enter

    3.  Go to the Startup tab

    4.  Uncheck 'Scan Panel' and apply the changes

    5.  Restart computer.

The engineers stated that the Scan Panel is trying to control the scanner settings and it is keeping other programs from making any changes.  So, disabling it in the Startup will keep this from happening.

Since yours are boat anchors now, maybe this will help someone else down the road!

This just saved me like 3 hours. This needs to be listed as best answer, of course killing the scan panel process solves the issue, but this resolves it after the reboot forever until a reinstallation/reactivation of the process in startup occurs.

Well seeing on how I didn't have a lot of time to devote to a bunch of BS suggested by Micro$oft, I decided to retire the f****** scanners and go with a newer model.

I use the old Canon scanners as boat anchors.

    HI,

I would suggest you to check with the canon support.
