Error Code 8000FFFF when trying to update windows (windows 7 64bit)

I just received th error code 8000fff. My computer runs very tight, its used specifically for gaming and email. System was running perfect but noticed there was windows updates to install. Did the update a few minutes ago and all updates failed to install. Along with the update install, for whatever reason it turned off windows defender and im being prompted to turn it back on.

WIndows Spec:

windows 7 64bit ultimate edition build 6.1.7601 serive pack 1 build 7601

virus free not antivirus or internet security programs

Ran "microsoft safety scanner and malwarebytes" no issues

firewall is configured correctly

system running fine until doing windows update

SYSTEM:

Core 2 Quad Q6600

8gb 1333 memory

gigabyte motherboad G41 chipset

Geforce GTX 460 1gb

velociraptor primary HD (HD temp 29c)

hitachi secondary HD (HD temp 30c)

*not running in RAID"

CPU temp: 41c

GPU temp: 35C

INTERNET EXPLORER INFO:

IE 9

Version ( 9.0.8112.16421)

update version: 9.0.3 (KB2586448)

It looks like it went and tried to install it twice as well. It shows double entries in the install history.

Again, this was a standard click on windows update through start menu for windows 7 64 bit. No issues prior to this system was running fine.

I did go to this url from the windows 7 information page and installed this fixhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error-8000FFFF

Since then my system is running slowwwww im going to do a restore but would like to know why components failed to install, all except the malicious tool . It also turned off windows defender which now wont turn back on.

UPDATE: I did a system restore. The restore point that was set automatically before the above FIX would not restore at that point, said corrupt. I had to restore from a point 2 days prior. System is back running fine, but have not attempted to update my system until i know what happened or what is wrong.

    Hi,

    You have tried the wrong fix-it to fix the updates issue on your computer. The link that you had provided is for fixing the same error code issue on Windows Vista computer and not for Windows 7 computer.

    However let’s see how we can fix this updates issue on your Windows 7 64 Bit computer.

    It is good to hear that you had tried System restore to restore your computer back to working state. Now let’s try few other troubleshooting steps to fix the updates issue on your computer.

    Steps that you can try to fix the Updates issue on your computer:

    Step 1:

    Refer the below link and run the Windows Update troubleshooter

    Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter

    Step 2:

    Put your computer on Clean boot.

    Follow link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 , follow Step 1 only.

    Next proceed with Step 3.

    Step 3:

    Windows Updates may fail to install and this happens if the Windows update components are corrupted on the computer.

    Refer the link below and run the fix-it tool available to reset the Windows update components.

    Now you can restart your computer for the changes to take effect and then try installing Windows updates from Windows Updater.

    If everything works fine and once the updates are installed on your computer.

    Put your computer back to Normal boot by following the below link.

    Note: Even if the updates still fail to install, put your computer back to Normal boot without fail by following the above link with reference to Step 7 only.

    I have the same issue as Mahmoud here.

    I've tried soooo many things, I've lost count.!

    I have 4 important updates to install and the codes I get are 8000FFFF & Code 5

    I have done the items as you suggested, (Clean Boot & Reset the Components) but the fails still haunt me.

    I have tried to install some separately, but still it fails!

    The system i am trying to sort is also a Windows 7 64bit

    Other trys are:

    *Catroot

    *Register Files

    *Rename Software Distribution Files

    (From this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997 )

    But now .... HUGELY FRUSTRATED!

    ANY Help appreciated

    Hey Harish

    I did all the steps you mentioned above and still have the same problem and can't perform the windows update. I get this 2 errors ( 8000FFFF and 9C57 ). And by the way the windows is Activated and running genuine.

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x86

    Hey Harish,

    Thanks for the great information and reply. What was interesting is that the

    orignal "fix" i downloaded was on the windows 7 page. I had clicked it when

    i was in the vista page and it said for windows 7

    issues click here. Wierd but good to know.

    Your first fix on the list did it. The fix was for windows update

    "location" . I dont know how it changed but the only thing i can think of

    is recently i did an acronis true image of my drive and cloned it to

    another new drive. Technically , this should have no bearing on anything

    since its an exact copy but that is the only thing i can think of that

    might of thrown off the update location.

    Your response and your knowledge is greatly appreciated and i just did the

    windows update with success and no "fails" ..
