    Hi touch25

What is the specific model of eMachines laptop you are using?

Most modern laptops will provide an option or keyboard shortcut to accomplish this.

The following Keyboard shortcuts have been known to disable the touchpad on various systems. Press and hold the Fn key and then press either F4, F6, F7, F9, or F12to disable the Touchpad.

Read the manual for your system specific instructions or contact the laptop manufacturers support.

Go to Control panel, Mouse to check the settings for your touchpad. If it's like mine there is an Enable control that has a keyboard shortcut associated with it and your cleaning routine might accidentally have pressed the relevant keys.

If it's not that check in Control panel, Device manager for errors & to attempt to update the touchpad driver.
