Windows 7 Compatibility for a Vebatim USB Drive "Store 'n Go". It worked with Windows XP (s.p.3), but does NOT work with Windows 7. No drivers to update, nothing... Troubleshooting for compatibility didn't help either. What can I do to make it usable? Thanks

    Hi guys,

thank you for all your replies! I've contacted Verbatim CS and got the message about the V-safe program installed on the USB drive. It's NOT compatible with Windows 7, only with Windows Vista. So, the only way to use the USB drive is to remove the software (V-safe), but then I wouldn't be able to have a "protected zone" on that drive... That was the offcial answer from Verbatim.

I have a 3 year old Verbatim Store 'n Go 2 GB that works fine for me.  If I were you, I'd contact Verbatim to see if they can offer a solution.

     Good luck.

    Hi Dee_dee,

    ·         Are you logged in as administrator?

I would suggest you to login as administrator and check if the same issue occurs.

You may also contact Verbatim for further assistance on the issue.

    Thank you for your answer.

Yes, it says ERROR. It can't read/open the USB drive. I just tried to use it on the Windows XP computer and it works perfectly. But it doesn't work on Windows 7 at all.

Yes, I've tried the Troubleshooter before and just repeated it again (Method1). Didn't help.

And yes, gave it a ty to method #2. Uninstalled all USB controllers, then Restarted the comp, all these drivers did reinstall automatically then. Plugged in this USB stick and... same ERROR message.

So, it tries to open the Files on USB stick, there is the "Store 'n Go" application (which is installed on this USB drive) thet needs to open first, but then a message appears that reads: "Error. Please insert the "store'n go" usb and try to login as privileged user." What all this means??? The USB stick was already plugged in, but the application somehow doesn't "see it"???

I also selected Properties on the USB drive, Advanced and then selected "Compatible with Windows XP SP 2" per instructions. It says that I need to select the previous version of Windows, when the USB drive worked.

I'm confused. Hope somebody can still help me with this.

    Hi Dee_dee,

    ·         Do you receive any error message?

    ·         Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

Verbatim USB Drive is compatible with Windows 7, you may refer the mentioned link for more information.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?l=en-us&type=Hardware&s=Verbatim%20USB%20Drive

Follow the suggestions listed below for a possible fix:

Method 1: Run hardware and device troubleshooter and check if it fixes the issue.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

**Method 2:**You can also reset the USB controller and check if it makes any difference:

    a.       Type devmgmt.msc in start search box.

    b.      Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

    c.       Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

    d.      Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.

    e.      Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

    Hope this helps.
