Should I uninstall PC Cleaner Pro?

I have a problem with Windows Media Player.  I did a search for 'Windows Media Player Fix'.  I clicked to a site that had the Microsoft logo in the address bar, and clicked 'fix now', and PC Cleaner Pro was downloanded.  When I clicked 'run', it did a scan and said my computer had over 3000 problem that needed to be fixed.  When I clicked 'fix now', I'm asked to register.  After doing so, I'm suddenlys asked to Buy the product at a special price of $29.95 - there was no mention of cost before this point.

Have I been scammed, and is my pc now at risk?  I did not want to Buy a product - I thought I was getting a Microsoft fix for my computer.  I closed the window - should I uninstall PC Cleaner Pro?  It is now listed under All Programs - but since I didn't purchase it, I'm leering about trying to use it.

Also, what the heck is PMB Launcher?  Some how its icon, and PMB Help, poppped up on my computer - I didn't knowingly download it.

Thanks.

The response that I received gave info on un-installing Reg Clean Pro - I think I get that.  What concerns me is whether or not PC Cleaner Pro is a legitamate product, since there was no mention of any cost when I downloaded it, and clicked 'run.'  I chose not to purchase the product, but it is listed on my computer under 'All Programs.'   I've heard horror stories about users downloading 'fixes' and then finding out that the 'fix' harmed their computers to the point where they had to buy the product in order to fix the computers.

Should I be concerned about PC Cleaner Pro being on my computer - since I did not fork over any money for the product?

    Thanks.

Sure you should be concerned.  Any program which makes no obvious benefit but gets itself installed and then takes any steps whatsoever to make uninstall difficult should be presumed guilty until proved innocent.  There are many lucrative, nasty things a program can do to your PC once you have given it the OK to install.  Programs which run all the time and have been installed with the privileges you granted - that is why Windows asks you if you permit the install - can do things like snoop your files or watch as you type in a password.  The fact that it tries to avoid uninstall should be taken as evidence that its makers see some benefit to keeping it on your machine, and that makes it suspicious.

If you want to install a cleaner or antivirus then be sure of the company you are buying from.  Unfortunately, bad companies have become really clever at gaming the system - creating multiple web sites purporting to give glowing reviews, fake users on legitimate review sites, etc.  I really have no idea how to tell you who you can trust.  For this particular company, I have no way of knowing to trust them or not.  But your question, can bad things happen from a program just being on your computer - absolutely.  Don't agree to install strangers.

I have installed PC Pro Cleaner once before. It is absolute junk, and this software is a fake one at that. I would highly recommend uninstalling this junk program to avoid damage to your computer system.

Many of these FREE software program downloads are from what I heard originated in perhaps India, or countries in the African sub-continent. The administrators who rigged these fake software programs

are probably scammers who might try to trick you into purchasing fake and illegitimate PC repair apparatuses for a ridiculously high cost. Scammers at these software sites may even ask you for your credit card, and other personal financial information to try and trick you as these knuckleheads steal your money. Sometimes invade your operating system, and invite viruses to wreak havoc in your computer. It's a mess, and quite frankly dangerous. Also, be very wary of any software website that claims that they have a partnership with Microsoft. As for your Windows Media Player, consult a Microsoft technician, or from our Community members here at this website.

    Hi,

ZookaWare uses deceptive marketing, and writes fraudulent reports on various software products in the industry to garner SEO results and get searches to link to their own products: SpyZooka, RegZooka and CyberBackup in a false and misleading manner. ZookaWare uses this website as a "false product review" site to mislead consumers: http://softwareindustryreport.com ZookaWare has created dozens of false product reviews with a false rating system that gives their own product a higher score. The method is simple: Create lots of these types of content reports so Google will score them as legitimate content, then give users false information about their own products to steer them toward those products. Additionally, there are many reports on the web stating the the products SpyZooka, RegZooka and CyberBackup are riddled with malware and bloatware. The site Software Industry Reports at http://softwareindustryreport.com is operated by ZookaWare. The writers all use false names, with false photographs. If you search on legitimate networking and/or social media websites, these people do not exist. They cannot be contacted, and they do not write for anyone else except for Zookaware.

I recommend and they not only 2 fantastic pieces of sofware for maleware, spyware, adware.

They are both FREE !!  Here are the links for Malwarebytes and SuperantiSpyware...

http://www.superantispyware.com/ They also have portable version for usb drives..

     http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
