I NEED THE  SYMBOL FOR numbers, but I do not get it when I SHIFT+3

I need the symbol for number --- it is atop the numerical 3 on the keyboard.    I should therefore be able to get that symbol by pressing SHIFT+the number 3 key.

Instead of getting the symbol which I need I instead get the symbol for the British Pound currency.

I need the symbol for number which is shown on the key for the numerical "3"

The  place to look would be in the Control Panel's Regional and Language options.  Click Start -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language options.  Make sure the language setting is for English (United States).

I hope this helps.  Good luck.
