What is Computer Browser for and why does it run 20 times in an hour. I went to Event viewer and found that Computer Browser ran 20 times.

Is this normal?

    Hi,

Do not disable it. There is no issue as it will start and stop as needed.

Stop worrying about something that is normal....... find something else to worry about.

    Hope this helps.

In fact I have all sharing turned off.I don't ever remember Computer Browser starting and stopping so often, I would have noticed it. I dis a clean install a few weeks ago and prior to that don't recall this running so often.

Why would this run so often when I have all sharing turned off?

    Thanks,

    James

Computer Browser is an essential service if you use file/printer sharing and networking features. Disabling the service can cause issues with networking. Networking here means accessing files/printer on another computer on the same network. The service, even if disabled does not have any effects on Internet connectivity.

I downloaded myeventviewer and will check it out later. I read a small bit of the network port requirements for the Windows Server system and didn't understand a bit of it.

Can I disable Computer Browser with no detrimental effects??

Also is it unusual for Computer Browser to run so often??

a second or so of the time of the EVENT or BSOD to provide more information as to possible

    cause - see TIP)

MyEventViewer - Free - a simple alternative to the standard event viewer of Windows.

TIP - Options - Advanced Filter allows you to see a time frame instead of the whole file -
