When I go to Indexing options,it tells be indexing is not running.

I can't modify (won't give me the option) and when I try to rebuild it does nothing.

Have also looked at "Turing Windows features on or off" There is not Indexing feature noted on this menu.

    Hello SamJ969,

Please try the steps outlined below, to see if you can enable indexing.

To disable or enable the service, run **"**services.msc" either direct from the start menu or via the run box. Once loaded, scroll down the services list, right click on Windows Search and then click Properties.  You will then have a pop up window, confirm under 'Startup type' confirm it is set to 'Automatic (Delayed Start).  Then select apply.

    Please let us know status.

    Hi

I had also tried this in the past...but tried again with your instructions and it does not make a differnce. I also noted in the windows search - properties a box that stated server status "stopped" with a start buttom below...when I try to start it I get a warning message that states "  The window search service on the local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Absolutely no help from MS Answer tech expert either, even sent completely unrelated articles.

I wonder why MS cannot even address the specific error codes?

    Hi,

I'm having the same troubles too. I've tried to delete the .blf and .regtrans-ms files, but my computer says those files are being used by the system and therefore cannot delete them.

My Windows Features for Indexing and Search Service are both turned on, but in Windows Services, the Windows Search will not start and keeps coming up with this message,"The window search service on the local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs"

I'm sorry that I'm just repeating the issue, but the solutions aren't working for me...

    PLEASE HELP!!
