Display on my Acer Aspire has become very dark, and I can't adjust it at all

Original Title: the screen on my acer aspire 8930 recently became very dark, almost like the backlight had gone? can't adjust brightness or anything. how can i diagnose what the problem is please?

or does anyone have a suggestion to how i can "fix" it?! thanks, paul

    Hello Paul,

    1.       Have you made any changes on your computer prior to the issue?

    2.       Have you tried using any external monitor?

    3.       How does the monitor looks when you see the Windows Startup screen?

    Perform the following troubleshooting methods:

    Method 1:

    Boot the computer in safe mode and check how the monitor works.

    Refer the link “Start your computer in safe mode Windows 7” to boo the computer in safe mode.

    Method 2:

    If the brightness of the monitor is good in safe mode, then the issue might be with the graphics card.

    I would suggest you to update the graphics card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and then check if this helps.

    Refer the links to update the drivers.

    Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

    Update drivers for Windows 7: recommended

    Method 3:

    If brightness of the monitor is bad even in safe mode, then the issue might be with the display. So I would suggest you to check with the manufacturer’s support for more information.
