Do I really need Windows Server 2008 on one home pc?
I have no idea what *your* needs would be at home. However, I don't see that you would be asking that question if you actually needed a Windows 2008 Server at home. heh

Thank you for your response. I'm not an IT person, just a retired PC user and don't know all technical aspects involved with Windows 7. I had to reinstall my Win7 Home Premium 64bit os, and was prompted to do updates. One of them was Service Pack 1 and the download included Server 2008R2. It was confusing, but I did it anyway. Now my pc has atleast 6 copies of some of my files, folders and documents. I just thought I'd ask to see if the SP1 with Server 2008R2 was the reason for this. Also, it seems like it has changed from a 64bit to a 32bit, because I'm getting mostly 32bit versions of updates.

Probably not - and there may be programs that you'll want to use that will only work on a non-Server Windows platform.
Hi,
Why would you think you need Windows Server 2008 R2 on a single
computer? Server is meant for a network environment.
