Changing name of computer's bluetooth name

I have a need to change the computer's bluetooth name, that appears when connecting to a cell phone.  This is used to transfer files to and from the cell phone.   I followed the instructions below, but find there is no "**Network Tasks"**or "Change settings of this connection" available.  So I have not been able to proceed.  The system is XP-Pro, SP3.

Here are the instructions I have found in "help" - -

      • -

To provide a name for your computer on a personal area network

When other computers or devices search for your computer, the name and description of your computer are shown. You can change this name and description.

  1. Open Network Connections in Control Panel.
  2. Under Personal Area Network, click the Bluetooth connection.
  3. Under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
  4. Click the Bluetooth tab.
  5. Under Service Name and Description, in Service Name, type the name of the service and in Service Description, type the description of the service.

    Hi,

A few things. Do you at least recognize the name shown, or is it just a series of numbers/letters?

Yes, I recognize the name shown on the blue tooth enabled cell phone.  It is a name that was previously transmitted.  I just wanted to see the name I changed it to shown on the receiver display.

    > Also, please tell us if this is an external Bluetooth adapter or have you yourself installed this in the computer? If so, please tell us the make and model of the adapter.

It is an external Bluetooth adapter, plugged in to a USB connector on the desktop computer.  It is IOGEAR GBU421 shown here:

The cell phone receiving the signal is a Motorola i465

    Those instructions say:

    • You can also change the name that Windows uses for the device. This change also affects the name that is used by the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard and by Add Modem.

I changed the name of the device under Advanced / Radio Information and Name - - in the box that is there for the name.

Then when I used the bluetooth function on my cell phone to search for available devices, the computer was listed on the phone as available, but the name shown was the old name before I changed it.  I am surprised and need to get the name on the phone screen right.

    Hi,

A few things. Do you at least recognize the name shown, or is it just a series of numbers/letters? I'm wondering if you actually change the name of the computer, or the user name in Windows, will that name show up on the phone?

Also, please tell us if this is an external Bluetooth adapter or have you yourself installed this in the computer? If so, please tell us the make and model of the adapter.
