Hello,

For some reason when my computer starts and log in, i got a message that says it can't locate c:/windows/system32/config/systemprofile/desktop.

When that happen it load a default profile and all my desktop icon except for my trash can and some programs from my startmenu are gone.

I can't find my profile folder under "c:/user" only a default map.

Also when I click "Computer" from the start menu or Windows logo+E you will see on the left of your panel: picture, video, your user profile and desktop. Those maps are gone.

I have this problem for 2 days and i have searched around the internet but to no avail.

Have someone a solution for this?

Sorry for my crappy english I hope someone can understand and help me. :)

I have a windows 7 Ultimate.

Cheers,

Me :p

PS: I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 because there are important document for school that I don't want to lose.

    Hi Nirmal S,

I have tried system restore many times but the problem is still there.

and now when I tried to log in it says,

"The group policy client service has failed the logon. Access Denied."

Then it log off and return to the profile selection screen.

But in safe mode i can log in without getting that message.

I have tried the SFC/scannow in safe mode and it says it found corrupted files.

I have also tried the advanced boot option by pressing F8 when my computer startup and have tried the repair option and the following options i have tried is:

    1. startup repair: -----it doesnt detect problems.
    2. system restore:--- didnt help.

I dont have created a backup T.T so i can't use system image restore option.

Some peoples tried the regedit thing but is it safe?

I mean that i will not lost my videos, pictures and documents?

I have pretty lost hope now T.T......since I cant log in normally now.

    Hi Eric_737,

Thank you for keeping us posted regarding the status of the issue.

    1) Are you able to login normally?

Try performing a System Restore to undo the changes made on the computer.

To do so, you may refer the link mentioned below –

What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

Note: Performing a System Restore will undo any changes made on your computer earlier. You may also lose unsaved information as well. Proceed at your own risk.

Additionally, you may refer the articles mentioned below for further assistance –

    Hi Nirmal S,

    1. sorry i dont really understand what you mean with this question €€€€>.<.
    2. no i got only the message that says it can not locate   c:/windows/system32/config/systemprofile.
    3. no, i have only wrote essays on word and surfing the internet. so i dont know what is causing this problem :/

    Method 1-

In safe mode i get the same problem.

    Method 3-

When I create a new account the problem is still the same.

I get the message:  It can not locate c:/windows/system32/config/systemprofile and

my video and picture folder and documents and desktop are still gone. I have followed the steps until when you need to double click Documents via startup because when I double click on it, nothing happened.

    Method 4-

    Startup repair doesnt detect problem.

    Thx for your reply.

I have also tried chkdsk but it says that there is no problem with my disk.

And I have created a screenshot to state my problem. I think i will go with screenshots so i can tell what happened and what kind of problem i have. Since my english is not all too good.

Btw I have used my friend PC to create the screenshot and edited to my situation in Paint since my computer doesnt have a internet browser or Paint.
