I am running Windows 7 on an Acer 4810TZ-4508 Thinline.  In my System Configuation, I am eliminating all non-essential start-up programs.  I notced one labeled Dritek WMI Service from Dritek System Inc.

What is is?

Is it necessary for the start-up?

Thanks.

Duckman78, close but no cigar I'm afraid.

I would highly recommend leaving this service running in it's default set-up as it controls lmanager.exe (as jem2828 already mentioned).

This program is included with default OS install on all acer aspire laptops and allows use of their special touch buttons (eg wifi on/off, run NTI BackupNow, Acer E-power Management on/off, and anoth I can't remember). In some aspire models it also allows some limited keyboard customisation.

So in summary, disabling the service / uninstalling launch manager won't affect the OS or they way your laptop runs, BUT if you want all your acer keys to function properly, leave this installed.

    Cheers, DC.

I was going thru my startup programs as well and ran into the same process running on my Acer Laptop. However, I was using AVG PC Tuneup instead of the TaskManager. AVG listed it as unknown. After reading your question and doing my own search online, I opened Windows Explorer and highlighted: Acer (C:) and typed "Dritek" in the search box. The search came back with the following list:

Dritek Launch Manager (Acer)  -----> C:\OEM\Preload\Autorun\DRV with the subfile applicastions; "LManager.exe", "LMConfig.exe", "LMworker.exe".

So I went to the Acer support website and put in my system info and found this driver support for Dritek. I have placed a link from Acer's support website to help. Good Luck!

    Hi rmoldershaw,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Answers.

Dritek WMI service in your computer’s System Configuration would be the service to run programs or devices developed by Dritek.

By disabling Dritek WMI service in system configuration, installed products from Dritek on your computer may not function as expected.

I’d like to let you know that WMI is an acronym for Windows Management Instrumentation, which is a set of extensions to the Windows Driver Model that provides an operating system interface through which instrumented components provide information and notification.

I’d suggest you to contact manufacturer, if you’re not sure of the service you want to disable.

To check the non-Microsoft services running on your computer, place a check mark beside “Hide all Microsoft Services” in System Configuration, which will list you third-party services running on your computer.

Important: - You will not be able to boot to desktop, if you disable any Microsoft service from System Configuration.

    Hope this information helps you.

    Regards,

This service is used on most laptops. This controls the sleep, hibernate, and controls what to do when you close the lid of your laptop. This process should only use about 2MB. I hope this is useful.

Thanks for your reply.  Sounds like I should not disable it - mainly because of they way the acronym sounds - i.e. sounds like it may have been installed as part of the Windows 7 operational system.

While informative, I am not clear, .... WMI - is that a Windows necessary component?  Windows Management Instrumentation - sounds like the little Icons to the right on the task bar which notify me of internet aceess, mouse opertaion, sound devise, Windows Security Essentials etc...

The Dritek website does not provide the answers but then again I have not spoken with anyone from Dritek.  I did not see what programs or services Dritek has avaiable that are also on my computer. - Any idea as to what programs or services Dritek provides?

    Thanks.
