It probably just needs cleaning. Get an inexpensive DVD drive cleaning kit from any place that sells computers and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

When creating a System repair disc it asks to insert a blank disc into the drive then comes back "media not recognized in CD-ROM Drive [D:]". Also getting "The disc in [D:] is not detected, or is not supported. CD/DVD not reading any other media, I can hear it spinning and it opens when clicking on insert disc links.

Well I've tried this method before but in previous attempts it always came not fixed with a red X. Seems this time it came back fixed with a green check mark but it's still not playing media. It is making different sounds and the CD is spinning much faster, not sure what's up.
