Desktop Background keeps becoming black automatically. Why?

Hey!

This just started happening recently.... My desktop background keeps reverting to black. I choose a theme... after a few minutes or if i'm installing or working on something it reverts back to a black background without my consent. It's quite annoying because I have to right-click and go to personalization and change it again.

Thank You. =)

    Hi windowsfan8,

    1. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

You may try the following steps and check if it helps:

    Step 1:

You may try performing a clean boot and check.

A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue.

You may refer the following KB article to put the computer in clean boot:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the above KB article to narrow down the exact source:

Also, after resolving the issue, see the section on how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual.

    Step 2:

You may refer the following link and try the steps provided to Optimize Windows 7 for better performance:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Optimize-Windows-7-for-better-performance

    Step 3:

You may also adjust windows for best performance.

    To do this:

    a. Click on Start and Right click on Computer.

    b. Under advanced system Settings, click Settings under Performance.

    c. Select Adjust for best performance

    Step 4:

    a. Click on start and select Control Panel

    b. Select Ease of Access Center and click on Make the computer easier to see link.

    c. Below Make things on the screen easier make sure the Remove background images is unchecked.

    Refer the link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-accessibility-features-does-Windows-offer

    Hope this information is helpful.

HAHA, I totally agree about being the most useless answer...LOL...

SOLUTION(S): FIX WINDOWS 7 DESKTOP WALLPAPER FROM TURNING BLACK

Solution 1: Delete the TranscodedWallpaper -

(it may be necessary to show hidden files in Folder Options).

    1. Start Menu
    2. Search Box: Type "TranscodedWallpaper.jpg," (w/out quotes)
    3. Delete it, and Restart Windows 7.

    Solution 2:  Run sfc /scannow -

    1. Start Menu
    2. Search Box, Type: "CMD" (w/out quotes).
    3. Right Click on the CMD Icon and Run As Administrator.

4*.* In the Command Prompt Type: "sfc /scannow," (again,w/out quotes),

    1. Let Run, it will fix most Windows System Errors, Restart the PC.

OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES/SOLUTIONS IF THE ABOVE WILL NOT WORK:

    1. Windows 7 is an Illegitimate Copy:  If Windows is a Pirated Copy it will cause the Wallpaper to turn black each time starting the Computer. Therefore, the solution would be to

    • Purchase a Legitimate Copy,

    - Or if you choose to be a THIEF, you can always download the

       Windows Activator (RemoveWAT 2.2.6.0).

    2.  Registry Changes/Visual Performance Settings: If you have a program like e.g. PC Tuneup, it sometimes will disable certain visual features to increase performance. Useless if so in my opinion...

In fact, this was the cause for me having issues. Or causing changes to the registry in some way...The solution in this case may be simple, go to the:

    •  "Control Panel (Classic Settings),"
    • Click on the "Ease of Access Center,"

    - Then click "Make the Computer Easier to See."

    - Uncheck "Remove Background Images (where available)

Agreed!  This is a real problem and we need to find a fix.  One finds numerous references to it on the web... and numerous suggestions: Hydravision, gaming software, other third party issues.  This problem is endemic.

I have a brand new, out of the box Win 7 installation... *nothing* has been installed besides Windows.  I'm logged in as the administrator.  I set the background to any picture; I log off; I log on... it's black.

I have been all through the group policy editor; everything is unconfigured as I expected.  I am not on any active directory; I am not on a network... it's just me and my machine.  There are no data on it yet so I can trash the registry and I'm willing to try anything to find this bug and I intend to do so.

Please don't tell me to boot the box... I have done that.  I suspect I'm going to find it in MMC... I'm there.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

    Smith
