Viewing .TGA files in Explorer - The legit way?

There are numerous plugins for explorer that allows one to view .tga files in explorer. However, the results are often quite buggy.

I'm looking for a way to preview .tga images in Explorer, preferably some official plugin by Microsoft (I haven't found one though).

Is there such official plugin, or can you recommend me a 3rd party one which has been proven to work properly?

    Matt,

Thanks for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community. There is currently no available plug-in by Microsoft. In researching, I did find a 3 party site that had decent reviews, however, Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk.

Also from reading the reviews, it appears to work for 32-bit only.

    I hope this helps.

TGA thumbnail previews in windows explorer (most if not all versions of windows) are possible with MICROSOFT'S DIRECT X DEVELOPMENT KIT, directly from MICROSOFT (link below) however it's a big download for a little feature (570mb)

Why would windows not support .tga or any other format for that matter? It seems silly that the worlds biggest OS can't support a widely used format in the most simplest of forms.

I'm using Adobe Bridge CC and it seems to work flawlessly. You could even replace the windows explorer with Bridge which is about 10 years behind Apple and Linux.

Considering games and movies are exceeding 30 and 40 GBs these days, 570 MB is negligible.

Took 5 minutes to download and another 2 minutes to install. I would have spent twice that amount of time hunting down a plugin that wasn't garbage.

I'm not a developer so please explain how I use the Direct X Development kit to view TGA file thumbnails in Explorer.  Thanks
