I did not fix the problem but now found out this is probably a bug with Windows 7 and/or Windows Media Player. I was able to replicate it with several of the stores pcs. This problem happens when Windows Media Player adds the music album cover. The cover is not brought along when the file is copied from music folder to another folder. To try this use the music file I hosted at Google drive and repeat the steps given in the previous post.
Unable to view album art when copied from music folder to the desktop
Original Title: Album art
I notice a strange bug on Windows 7 that is replicable on BOTH my Windows 7 machines. If I copy a file directly to the desktop from the music folder, the album art is not carried over. However, if I first copy the file in the music file in the music folder (or directly move the music file) and then move it to the desktop, then the album art shows.

2012-04-30T15:54:37+00:00 Hi,
We were unable to replicate the issue from our end.
You may follow the steps and check with the issue.
a) Go the music folder.
b) On the left pane, click on Organize.
c) Click on folder and search option.
d) That will open the folder option window.
e) Under view tab, in section folder view, click on Reset folders
f) Under advanced settings, click on restore default.
g) Under general tab, click on restore default.
h) Click on Apply and OK.
Hope it helps.
I already did that. No difference. Do you understand how to replicate the problem? Also, I was talking about album art and not the small preview of the image. The preview of all image files and pdf files works OK.
Can you tell me the steps you did.
Since I can replicate it on two PC's mean that the problem is not isolated to one PC (Dell laptop & HP desktop). I have Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) with ALL updates and software installed (like latest .nets). The only hardware common on both PC is the ATI graphic card.
List of user software (present on both PC):
- SpywareBlaster
- Inspiration 7.6
- Norton Internet Security 2012 (latest version with all updates installed)
- Paint.Net
- Microsoft Office 2007 (Student)
- Logitech SetPoint
- Microsoft Keyboard (itype)
- Microsoft LifeCam
- Adobe Flash & Adobe Shockwave
- Tracker PDF Xchange viewer (PDF reader)
- QuickTime
- AMD VISION Engine Control Center and other graphic card updates (ATI Catalyst package)
- Latest version of Silverlight (5.0.61118.0)
- WOT (web of trust) for Internet Explorer
- Java 6 Update 32
- ieSpell.
- Internet Explorer 9
I will see if I can replicate this in a PC store PC
Edit: It looks like when copying the music file directly to the desktop (using ctrl+drag), the album art is not carried over to the new file. But if I copy it in the music folder first and then move it over, the album art is.
Edit: The problem is NOT not being able to see the album art in the music folder. That is OK. Nor is it unable to see the album art in the other folders. Its just that music files that are simply copied over to the other folders does not display the album art. The "original" music file and music files that are first copied in the music folder and then moved out display the album art. But music files that are simply copied to another folder doesn't (the copied file that is not the original).

2012-04-29T16:53:29+00:00 Can you replicate the bug? I was able to replicate it on two PC's meaning its not a isolated incident.
Edit: Perfomed clean boot but bug still exist.
How to replicate it:
- Go the music folder and copy a music that has an album art by holding down "ctrl" and dragging it to the desktop. The copied mp3 file won't have an album art.
- Now copy the mp3 file in the music folder by holding down "ctrl" and then dragging it anywhere in the music folder. A mp3 file with the name "copy" will be created. Now move the file to the desktop and the album art will be copied over.

Have you made any changes prior to the issue?
You may try to perform clean boot and check.
