Original Title: MTP USB driver failure

Trying to connect my Asus Transformer Tf101 tablet to my windows 7 home premium laptop but, the MTP USB driver keeps failing. I have downloaded and tried the Asus MTP USB driver, which failed, also a universal MTP USB driver, that failed as well. Installed Windows Media Player and update to 12, didn't help. Along with the pre-release windows 8 umdf, which did nothing. I continually get error code 10 (device cannot start) no matter what I try.

Finally was able to test out a different cable and my tablet was able to connect. I don't know why my cable stopped working but i guess i'll just get a new cable. Thank you for your time.

    Hi,

Are you saying that it is only your tablet that's not connecting properly? Other family members are able to connect their exact same make and model tablets to this PC, and they work fine? If that's the case, then this sounds more like a problem with your tablet than an issue within Windows.

I also found a potential solution in the Asus Android forums from a user who was having the exact same issue with this particular tablet. Their solution ended up being to upgrade Windows Media Player from version 9 to 11, then uninstalling the MTP driver from the Device Manager.

Yes, mine and another family members are identicat, bought as christmas gifts last christmas. I have windows media player 12 and still nothing. I can't unistall any of the drivers since they won't show up in the device manager. But the correct drivers that i got from the other family member's tablet and successfully installed are on the hard drive which I confirmed through the Windows explorer. I even tried uninstalling all usb drivers and restarting the computer to repopulate the device manager as suggested from another site and that didn't work.

Still no luck. Here is everything I have tried and know:

    • tried all options in posted above but none worked.
    • fixit tried several times but failed each time.
    • along with hardware and device troubleshooter.
    • tablet does wakeup when plug-in but laptop doesn't do anything.
    • tried all USB ports (4) with and without USB debugging enabled on tablet.
    • installed asus drivers alone before doing anything, alt of them failed (code 10).
    • installed asus sync, said to have drivers with it, still nothing
    • installed asus pc suite, said to have drivers with it, still nothing,
    • installed universal drivers, still nothing.
    • tried windows update but it didn't find anything to update.
    • tried to get android SDK but couldn't get it to recognize java JDK, said something about setting eniviroment varible to home, didn't try ot because that seem to a be a quick way to mess up my laptop.
    • plugged in other family member's asus tablet, same model, same android version, same kernal, both unrooted, even purchased together. So they are identical.
    • Other family member's worked perfectly
    • tried using mine after successfully installing drivers and using other asus tablet, still nothing.
    • complete wipe and clean install of windows 7 home premium recently. So laptop is clean and free of errors except for this.
    • wiped  and reinstalled rom on asus tablet. This is clean as well.
    • used recovery kernal image, still nothing.
    • tried to root tablet to change rom but I need the computer to root it.
    • tried to write driver via command prompt but access was always denied and yes, I do have and adminstrator previleges and used run with adminstrator.
    • and I have checked to compatiblity center and it yes to all asus tablets.

So, I have tried anything and everything, but would still appreciate any ideas short of hacking windows.

You may follow the suggestions mentioned below.
