how often should i backup my files? I do  not use my computer for work, or store personal data such as banking or for storing pictures.

also when i do a backup every month all that is backed up is the same installed program files.

my computer store the backup files on drive D. I'am down to 15.2 gb out of 69.5 gb of memory on that drive.

It seems all i'am doing is backing up the same program files every month and i do not make any new files that need to be backed up.

could some one help me with this question. thanks

    Hi,

It really depends on how critical your data is. It depends on the number of files you create and how often you create them. If you create new files every day, you might want to back up weekly or even daily. If you occasionally create many files—for example, if you save a lot of digital photos from a birthday party or graduation, back them up right away. It's best to schedule regular, automatic backups so you don't even have to think about it. You can choose to have your files backed up daily, weekly, or monthly. You can also back up manually between automatic backups.

    Hello woobby,

You would be correct, since you are backing up any new data to a disk.  However, if you keep that data on your hard drive, it would still be a part of the new monthly backup.

So if you ever would need to boot from your recovery disk, you could bring your system back to that state.  I would suggest backing up as you currently are monthly, since you back it up to a disk anyway.

Just ask yourself, "If your hard drive was to crash, would you lose any of your data"?  If you answer yes, then back it up to a disk or run a backup.

    Thanks,

    James

In reply to your answer in regards to my question, I do not create any new files and any photos I take are immediatly burned to a DVD. It seems that when i do a backup all i"am doing is backing up system files that have been all ready backed up to discs and backup files. should i still do a monthly backup? like i said any new files that were created when i first bought the computer. have been all ready backed up to disc or windows backup files. it seems all i'am doing is backing up the same system files that were added or installed on my computer.
