Unable to connect to Internet using Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN card

Original Title: My network adaptor keeps failing to allow me to connect to the Internet on windows 7. Is this a windows bug or a hardware problem?

Here's my problem. I recently purchased an acer aspire desktop running on Windows 7. For the first couple of weeks I did not have any problem hooking up to my wifi router. In the last two weeks, 3 out of 4 boot-ups result in an inability to connect to my wifi router.  I was told by Acer Tech Support that it could be due to a corrupted Network Adaptor driver. I was told to uninstall the Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN card driver and reboot.  Once I did this the network adaptor driver reinstalled and wifi Internet connection was re-established.

The problem is I can't keep doing this every 3 out of 4 times I start up my desktop. This never happened when I was using XP.  Is there a permanent fix?  I am not sure if it is a windows 7 compatibility issue with the Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN card driver? Or is it a bug in Microsoft 7 itself? Or the way my Acer Aspire desktop is set up that's causing the Ralink driver to get corrupted after each shutdown? Or a hardware problem?

Any assistance or advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

    Method 1:

Uncheck Allow computer to turn off this device to save power option.

    a.    Open device manager.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-Device-Manager

    b. Find and expand Network adapters heading.

    c. Locate and highlight your wireless adapter

    d. Right click on it and select Properties

    e. On menu click on Power Management

    f. Uncheck where it is Allow computer to turn off this device to save power

    g. Click OK

If the steps in method 1 do not work, then please follow the steps mentioned under method 2.

    Method 2:

You may temporarily disable security software’s and check if the issue persists. Make sure to enable those security software's on the computer after checking.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

If disabling the security software resolves the issue then, please contact the specific security software manufacturer to resolve the issue.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

we have a Acer Aspire desktop model as well and the LAN card fails on us too even after a complete wipe of the computer and re installing windows 7. I think Bitdefender may have something to do with it but i have tried everything and still this stupid LAN card just seems to intermittently fail. Acer have never built anything with good quality i don't think.

This puter works fine in the city, I lived in the county, Suddenlink is the cable provider. Have 8 links from 'em to us,

this puter wouldn't connect but to 2, often get to reset modem(not in my RV, managers), sometime it goes there no one does anything, it rebots itself, my Alcatel 4517T connects fine. Updated the wireless card Friday(082115), wireless card is 802.11n, Ralink version 5.00.46.0000.

I just unchecked the allow puter to turn off power!! I'm using same puter to post this, I'm in the city!!

    OK what's the problem??

    Hi,

Does it connect eventually (ie after 5-10 mins) or not at all? I'm having intermittent problems that only seem to have started since the last April/May Windows Updates.
