internet will periodically stop - like a hick-up - if streaming will stop streaming / if on internet will not go to next page just freezes - have received 2 new modems from Verizon in the last 6 months still have issues - do I need a new computer or can I replace the ethernet card?

PS:  have had trouble with this computer since day one but worked and just fought it - now retired and have no patience and no work to go to to use internet

You can check your ethernet card by going to Device Manager.  Click Start and right-click Computer, then click Properties.  From there, click Device manager.  Look where it says "Network adapters".  If there's an exclamation or question mark there, you have an ethernet problem; if not you're OK.  You didn't say whether you're using a wireless or wired connection.  If wireless, I'd suspect the router or your ISP.  If wired, I'd definitely suspect the ISP.  Be aware that streaming video takes a right fast connection.  If you have a minimal DSL connection, pauses (hickups) are to be expected.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

Ok here is a twist for you. What if you have those exact issues with but I figured something out. I have a dual boot HP with Windows 7 on one partition and Ubuntu on the other. When I'm on my Windows side and plugged in to my modem, my modem will reset and never lock on to the internet. When I restart my computer and log on to the Ubuntu side, I can do what ever I want on the internet with no page loading issues what so ever. I have thought of everything to fix the Windows side like running 4 different virus programs to include Avast and Malware's newest versions, I have uninstalled anything that was installed since these issues started and I have cleaned my computer in every possible way and I still can't get online with my computer. Is this the newest virus out or am I high?
