I am trying to share a printer. I have a Desktop running Windows Home Premium and am trying to share with a laptop also running Windows Home Premium. Both have Microsoft Security Essentials (and have never used any other anti-virus software.) We have a
wireless network for the internet and use the Home Group settings and can share files. At one time we could share the printer.
(Desktop is two years old, the laptop is one year old)
Two things have happened lately that may have contributed to this problem.
#1 – I added a laptop running Vista to the wireless network to access the internet.
#2 – My old printer (HP 1500) died and I replaced it with an old HP HPS 1310.
I am not sure at what point the printer-sharing quit working.
I go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > change advanced sharing settings > Home or Work > click on TURN ON network discovery, file & printer sharing, SAVE settings. When I go back in network discovery, file & printer sharing is TURNED OFF.
When I go to Control Panel > Devices & Printers > right click on printer > click on Printer Properties > click on sharing > click on change sharing options > click share this printer > click APPLY, I get this message: "Printer Settings could not be saved.
Operation could not be completed. error0x000006d9".
The help forums then lead me to changing settings on my Windows Firewall.
However, when I go there, I get this message: "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error Code 0x80070424"
“When I go to services”, the Windows Firewall does not appear.
I have researched these errors and found many conversations related to them. I have followed many suggestions but I can’t fix it.
During this three day ordeal I have ran across this message relating to Home Group: "Specific Error 2147023143".
I really have no idea in what direction to go. My husband wants to buy a new printer but I don’t think that will solve the problem.
What would you suggest I do ? Get a new Printer, ask for your help in resolving these errors, or ask for your help in restoring back to factory settings, ?
Thank you. & HAPPY EASTER!
