A new update has been released for Windows Live Essentials 2011. How to update my Windows Live Mail(or the whole live essentials suite)? Windows Update does not throw up the update option in either Important or Optional section.

    Hi,

To address your concern, I suggest that you check first for updates in your computer. Do this by going to your Control Panel then click Windows Update then choose **Check for updates.**If there is no updates for Windows Live Essentials, proceed to doing a clean removal of Windows Live Essentials. Unlike regular uninstall and re-install, clean removal deletes and all the registry keys associated with Windows Live Mail. You can refer to this solution article for the steps on how to do it:

**How do I uninstall one or more Essentials programs?**

After doing the clean removal, download and install the latest version of Windows Live Essentials. Please refer to the link below.

    **Windows Live Essentials**

    Thanks!

You will need to re-install the software and look for the prompt for the update.

What do you mean by re-install? Are you suggesting that the OP should re-install the old version, then update to the new one? Why?

If the OP downloads the latest version from one of the sites I directed him to, there will be no further update available. The prompt to update will only appear if the version installed is not the latest.

Use the link on this page: Windows Live Essentials or if you prefer select the appropriate full installer on this page: How do I install Windows Live Essentials while offline?

Be sure to set a restore point before starting, and to have an up-to-date backup of your default contacts list as CSV.

It's all or nothing. You can't have different versions of the Windows Live Essentials programs. There is a specific download for Windows Live Mail; I haven't tried it, but I suspect it is the same animal that will update any other WL programs as well as Mail.
