I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and despite trying a zillion different HP printer drivers, I cannot get my HP Laserjet 1022n to work. Now Windows does not seem to even recognise the printer is plugged in

Install HP LaserJet 1022n on Windows 7

(You DONT have to connect it to USB)

    • Download LaserJet 1022n driver from HP

    32 bit - lj1020-HB-pnp-win32-en

    64 bit - lj1020-HB-pnp-win64-en

    • Run your downloaded driver

HP driver install window opens asking you to connect the USB cable

    • CANCEL installation

IMPORTANT NOTE: This extracts the needed driver to your Hard Drive. Your driver will be extracted to folder:

    (64 bit)    C:\Program Files\HP\HP LaserJet 1020 Driver

    (32 bit)    C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP LaserJet 1020 Driver

    • Add your printer manually - START > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer
    • Add a Local Printer > Create a new port > Standard TCP/IP Port > NEXT
    • Enter the IP address > NEXT

If you dont know it, have you 1022n on, hold the diamond shaped button down for 10 seconds. A configuration page with the IP on it will print.

    • "Install a printer Driver" screen opens, click  HAVE DISK
    • Browse to the folder where your driver was extracted (shown above)
    • Choose the "HPLJ1020" file > OPEN > OK > NEXT
    • Select your printer name > NEXT > FINISH

    Hi,

What is the exact error code or error message?

The HP LaserJet 1022n printer is compatible with Windows 7.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=HP%20LaserJet%201022n%20Laser%20Printer&v=HP&uid=Q5913A&pf=11&pi=5&s=hp5%20laserjet&os=32-bit

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

First remove the printer, if it is present in Devices and Printers, and then try to install the printer.

    Install a printer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Install-a-printer

    Method 2:

Disable security software and check if it helps.

    Disable security software: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

Disclaimer: If you have to temporarily disable security software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3:

Try to update the printer driver and check if it helps.

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly: ****http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

I found this on another forum if it helps someone.

    • In device manager, you have to right click on the HP LJ 1022n
    • Update the driver software.
    • Select Browse my computer for driver software.
    • Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    • Select Printers.
    • Select the HP LJ 1020 printer.
    • When the warning comes up, just go through the warning.

I was able to print a test page.  User is working fine now.

I have tried all of these steps.

    Currently....

    • The HP LaserJet 1022n is not showing up in the print server properties as an installed printer.
    • There is not an icon for the HP LaserJet 1022n printer in Devices and Printers.
    • It has been removed under Other Devices in device manager
    • The HP directory has been deleted from C:\Program Files and the Recycle bin has been emptied.
    • The system has been rebooted.

Upon reboot, I attempt to run the HP LJ 1022n driver for Windows 7 64bit.  I still get prompted to connect the device.  When I connect the printer, nothing happens.  The OS detects the printer but says the device driver was not successfully installed.  The HP install remains waiting for the HP device to be connected (although I've already connected it).    This printer is for USB, not networked.

This appears to be a known problem.  Can you please help?

    No this didn't work.

The instructions were good, the driver downloaded and I was able to follow each step as per your email. It just won't print.
