USB Keeps Beeping, Trying to Connect Non-Existent Device: "Kernel USB Software Bus by TCP"

My desktop PC (HP Pavillion m9600t keeps making those familiar USB disconnect and connect sounds, as a pair, about every 20 seconds: disconnect, 2 seconds, connect, 20 seconds...repeating pattern forever.  There is nothing that should be trying to connect or disconnect.  The one unusual thing I noticed was in Devices and Printers, in the Unspecified category, simultaneous with the USB disconnect/connect sounds, is the disappearance and reappearance of a device called "Kernel USB Software Bus by TCP".  I've tried disconnecting all USB devices and powering them down, with no luck.  I have Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi,

Have you made any recent software or hardware changes on the computer?

You may try the following methods and check the status of the issue.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to go through the link and update the motherboard chipset. Visit the computer manufacturer website or use the link provided below.

Update chipset (Motherboard) drivers.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

Method 2:

Restart computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists, follow the “step 1” in the following link enable to clean boot:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Follow the step 7 from the article to “Reset the computer to start as usual”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.

Method 3:

If the above step fails you may check after uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

a. Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

b. Click Continue. The Device Manager Dialog box is displayed.

c. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

d. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

Method 3:

If the above step fails, I would suggest you to follow run fix it from the link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices

Note: This link is applicable for Windows 7 as well.

Hope this helps and keep us posted.

    Hi Rohit,

Really appreciated your advice.  Went straight for Method 3 and found that my Device Manager was flashing in time to the beeps!!!  Did exactly what you suggested, taking a chance that Windows 10 would work the same way as 7.

On rebooting all came back apart from the awful beep that had been driving me mad for days.  Wonder if it was the last Windows update that caused the problem?

    Best regards,

    Eric
