Mailbox disk quota exceeded what does this mean and how can I fix it

Have been getting this error message anfd friends emails have been returned to them with this message.

The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'RCPT TO:<******@lineone.net> Mailbox disk quota exceeded'

    Hi grantd(2),

    May I please ask what email client software are you using? Also the affected email address in question so that we can look further into this.

    Thanks very much for your fast response.

    Eventually I worked out what the problem was. Microsoft Live Hotmail automatically leaves a copy of each e-mail on my ISP's server unless I uncheck the box on my properties of my ISP's e-mail. So unknown to me even though I was regularly deleting emails this had no effect on my mailbox at my ISP. I have now unchecked the box and deleted all my email copies at my ISP.
