· What is the model number of the drive?
· Do you have a driver CD of the drive?
Check to see if the following helps.
**Method 1:**Connect the drive and check if it shows up under Windows Explorer and Device Manager.
a. Click Start and then Computer. See if the drive is listed.
b. Open Device Manager and check for “DVD\CD ROM drives”.
**Method 2:**If you do not see the drive listed, install the driver\firmware from the manufacturer CD.
**Method 3:**Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

**Method 4:**Initiate recognition of the device by using Device Manager, follow these steps:
a. Click Start and type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes), and then Enter. The Device Manager window opens.
b. Click to select your computer as the location for the scan.
c. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.
d. Close the Device Manager window and restart the computer.
