I am trying to install an LG Portable Super Multi Drive. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. When I hook it up, it grinds and revolves, but won't install the drive.

    Hi mwilliamson16,

    ·        What is the model number of the drive?

    ·        Do you have a driver CD of the drive?

Check to see if the following helps.

**Method 1:**Connect the drive and check if it shows up under Windows Explorer and Device Manager.

    a.       Click Start and then Computer. See if the drive is listed.

    b.      Open Device Manager and check for “DVD\CD ROM drives”.

**Method 2:**If you do not see the drive listed, install the driver\firmware from the manufacturer CD.

**Method 3:**Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    b.      Click to select your computer as the location for the scan.

    c.       On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

    d.      Close the Device Manager window and restart the computer.

I am having the same problem - info:

    1. Drive model LG GP40NR10
    2. A CD came with the drive, but I can only install it from the drive (which does'nt work).
    3. I have followed your Method 4, found the Drive in the device manager, but with the yellow !. By clicking on the Drive I get the message that Windows cannot start this hardware because the configuration (in the registration database) is wrong or damaged (code 19).

When asking to update the driver, the message is that the driver is installed and uptodate.

The Drive does not appear in Pathfinder.

I have connected the USB from the same Drive to my laptop with XP, and within seconds the small image appeared next to the clock and after another few seconds: New hardware found and installed - ready to use.
