I have problem connecting Toshiba Canvio Basics USB 3.0 External Hard Drive 1 TB on my MacBook Pro BootCamp using 64 bit Windows 7

everytime I connect the USB cable the computer cannot find the correct software driver and keep searching online.

I have tried to update driver from device manager, but cannot find the correct driver from either Microsoft or Toshiba websites

If I connect this external hard drive to other computer with 32 bit Windows XP it works perfectly fine.

Please advise where can I find the correct software driver for my 64 bit Windows 7 MacBook Pro BootCamp. Thanks

    Hi Joseph,

    1.       Does other USB device work fine on this computer?

    2.       Do you get any error code or error message?

    3.       Was the Toshiba External Hard drive working fine before with this computer?

**Method 1:**You may run the fix it from the article.

Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us

**Method 2:**You may assign a different drive letter and then check.

Change, add, or remove a drive letter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter

    Method 3:

****a) Click **Start.**b) In the search box type **Device Manager.**c) Locate Disk drives and expand the chevron.

    d) Right click **External drive.**e) Click Properties and then go to **Drivers tab.**f) Click Uninstall and click Apply and OK.

You may reinstall the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

After reinstalling the drivers, you may select scan for hardware changes and see if the drive gets detected correctly, if it does not help then try restarting the computer.

Hello, I'm having the exact same problem with the exact same setup.  I followed the instructions in the reply and they did nothing to resolve the problem.  When running the "Fix It" program it reports that "Windows has stopped this device (Universal Serial Bus controllers) because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I attempted updating the USB controller drivers but it said that it has the latest updates.

This is not a solution but rather a remedy which I found accidentally. At least you can use your HDD even it is not with USB 3.0 speed.

    Dear Tech,

Your solutions won't work. I have the same problem exactly.
