I'd like to delete old system-restore points (there must be many) on a Windows XP home edition, 32-bit, SP-3.

    This is one way.

Disk Cleanup - Launch the Disk Cleanup tool and then select the more options tab. On this tab you will find a section for System Restore. If you press the Clean Up button for that section, Windows will delete all restore points except for the most recent one.

Ken Blake's answer is nonsense. There is software in the market which allows you to safely remove individual restore points. Goto http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/help and download CCleaner. It is free. In the Tools tab \ System Restore selector you can manage all restore points except the latest one, which is protected for safety.

You can not delete selected restore points. You have only three

    choices:

    1. Delete none of them.
    2. Delete all of them.
    3. Delete all but the last one.
