Issues with Netgear WG311T and Win 7 64-bit

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit and have sporadic issues with my wireless connectivity.  I am using a Netgear WG311T wireless card to connect to a LinksysWRT54G2 router.  Windows automatically installed the drivers to my wireless card, and I have double checked that they are the most recent drivers.  I see on the compatibility page that my router is compatible with the 64-bit OS (with the little Windows compatible logo if that is significant), and my wireless card is also compatible with the 64-bit OS (no logo...).  I also checked Netgear's site for drivers (no new ones since Vista, which my computer won't boot to run as the wireless management client).

But I still have days where it works fine and days where I'm diagnosing the connection every 5 minutes and it finds a "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" that is "fixed".  This occurs when connecting to my router or a neighbor's router, and other wireless computers on the network have no issues.  Here's a recent report on the diagnostics (SSID of a neighbor's network and my computer name are changed to 'xxxxx' for privacy reasons):

I'm guessing it's going to come down to buying a new wireless card, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.  Anyone have any ideas or experience with this issue?

    Hello Potato Bus,

I see that the ‘Netgear WG311T’ is not compatible with Windows 7. Here is a link you can follow on the Windows compatibility center that will give you information on compatibility:

    http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/windows-vista/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=WG311T%20802.11g%20Wireless%20PCI%20Adapter%20108Mbps&v=Netgear&uid=WG311T&pf=1&pi=8&c=Networking&sc=Wireless%20Network%20Cards&os=32-bit

So you might have to replace with Windows 7 compatible Network card.

However, before you go for a new Network card, I suggest that you check with Network card manufacturer if there are any updated drivers for Windows 7. Here is a link you can follow to contact Netgear:

    http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb\_web\_files/gearhead/home.html

I just bought a new HP p6733w with 64-bit Windows 7. Ever since I set up my computer, I've been having the same problem. I keep losing my internet connection. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, all of the sudden my pages stop loading. An error message eventually pops up. I run the Network troubleshooter and it fixes it but I don't know why it keeps happening. It keeps saying "The default gateway is not available".

looking like a driver conflict This is a Windows 2000 Executive character-mode STOP message. It indicates that a device queue was expected to be busy, but was not.

    Hello Potato Bus,

Sorry about giving the Vista compatibility link. However, I am not very sure about the compatibility of the ‘WG311T’ with Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

I was further looking in the Netgear website for this adapter and I found that there are drivers available for Windows Vista for download.

Here is a link I found that you can use to download the drivers:

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a\_id/747

You should try o download these drivers and try to install them in Vista Compatibility mode and check if the router works before you buy a new one.

Check out this article that will help you install the drivers in Vista compatibility mode:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-windows

However, only Netgear will be able to give you the accurate information on the compatibility of this with Windows 7 like I told in my previous post.

    Thanks,

Hmm, the link you provided appears to be for Vista compatability, I was looking at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Netgear%20SUPER-G%20PCI%20Wireless%20Network%20Adapter&v=Netgear&uid=WG311T&pf=0&pi=0&s=wg311t&os=64-bit

The fact that it is not compatible with Vista does make me believe that it probably isn't compatible with Windows 7 either.  I'll look into getting a new card though.  Thanks!
