I finally fixed the problem by re-installing vcredist_x64 fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347even though sxstrace complained about win32 dll's! Thanks for your input, though. I learned a lot about sxs in the process.
I have MSVC++ running, but my autocad program now will not work.

I uninstalled all MSVC++ runtimes because I was having trouble with MSVC++2005 (it would not start debugging). I have MSVC++ running fine now, but my autocad program now will not work. My system is a little funny because autocad 2009(x64) is installed in Program Files, but MSVC++ installs in Program Files (x86). Anyway, I've tried downloading several versions of vcredist and installing them to no avail. Help please!!! Thanks, Paul

It may be necessary to show Both Hidden and System Files, and also to uncheck "Hide known file types" in Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View, to navigate to the mentioned location.
Other less fortunate have ended up reinstalling Windows in order to sort out the mess.
