how to connect mobile device to windows 7

I am new to Windows 7. I have a mobile device that runs Windows CE and connects via serial cable.

In earlier versions of windows, I could just install activesync on my desktop PC, click connect on my mobile device and it would connect and show up in windows as a mobile device. Then I could transfer files through explorer.

How can I connect to my Windows 7 PC? Nothing happens and all I can find is Sync Center (seems pretty worthless). I don't really need to auto sync files, just move files between the two.

    Hi tjf1980,

Refer the method mentioned below and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center replaces ActiveSync for Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows 7.

Try to download Mobile Device Center 6.1 from the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931937

Note: Download the 64 bit version from the link mentioned above and check.

    Method 2:

Sync music, pictures, contacts, and calendars with a mobile device

    Hope this information helps.

There seems to be a driver problem.  I had the same problem in windows 7,8,8.1 and 10.

I found the device in device manager and uninstalled and checked the delete driver box.

Had to do it twice before it took effect. It is now working well in windows 10

I am running Windows 7 on a 64 bit machine. Appears Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is not supported on 64bit systems and I am not able to install it at all. I am not worried about syncing my device and it's NOT a phone. I can't find any help for my particular situation and come with no software fixes in microsoft downloads.

How are people connecting anything to Windows 7? Sync Center doesn't appear to do anything for me.
