Headset Setup with Windows 7.

I recently purchased windows 7 and installed it onto my PC (before I had XP). My PC is capable of running it (3.4GHz,6 Gig 6, ATI 5770). However, I cannot get my headset to work with windows 7. The headset has an orange and a pink jack. I have plugged these jacks into the back of my computer in the corresponding jacks several times but windows has never detected anything. I have tried the "Add a device" feature and windows has come up with nothing. Additionally on the audio device manager it says that speakers, headsets and microphones are all not plugged in, even though they are. Anyone know how to configure these with Windows 7?

Additionally I have plugged in my old speakers(which worked with XP) and the same problem happens. Neither of these devices come with a driver.

    Hello

    Welcome to microsoft answers.

(A). Try to connect a microphone to your computer in this way.

After you've plugged a microphone into a microphone jack on your computer and turned it on (if the microphone has an on button), follow these steps.

1.Open Sound by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type sound, and then click Sound.

2.Click the Recording tab, click Microphone, and then click Properties.

3.Click the Levels tab and make sure the Mute button looks like this . If the button looks like this , click it to turn on sound for this connection, and then click Apply.

4.(Optional) To listen to microphone sounds through your speakers or headphones, click the Listen tab, click the Listen to this device check box, and then click OK.

(B). Check the lights if it glows when the speakers are plugged in.

(C). Try connecting the headphones to the different slot (Front) or to a different computer and check.

(D). It can be an issue with the slot itself where in the device is not getting recognized because of the hardware fault.

    Hope it helps

    Thanks and regards

Your answer doesn't work.  I have the same problem as Droogish - headphone doesn't work with Windows 7 in front jack.  Just took my new PC back to the store to dobule check the hardware.  They spent 30 mins checking the hardware and trying to configure but gave up.  I had already tried the steps recommended in your answer but they don't work.

I have an EliteGroup IC780M-A version 2 motherboard and I use an ATI Radeon 5670.

    Both have integrated audio.

When I run XP 32bit my front microphone and headphone jacks work fine but when I run my Windows 7 Home Edition it seems nothing I do allows the front jacks to be used.

I don't give a hoot about this High Definition sound stuff as I am totally deaf in one ear and half deaf in the other.

All I want is to be able to install my Sony Sound Forge 9 as I do with XP so that I can make voice recordings.   I also have a Bible program that I like to be able to use the voice record feature in.

With XP I can run my rear jacks so that my sound system receives input for movies when I have visitors that wish to watch and listen with me.

I have uninstalled Windows 7 and went back to XP (as I own two versions of XP, one an upgrade and the other a stand alone version).   I also own two versions of Windows 7, one with SP 1 included and the other that does not include Sp 1.

But I am getting totally fed up with the obstanence of Windows 7 in that it disallows me the freedom to do many things I did in XP.   And to me that is calculated to force me to upgrade to the Professional version where I can then run in XP Virtual mode.  (I do not know for sure if XP Virtual mode would solve the problem but if that is the case then I resent Microsoft doing that to me.)

I just bought this computer as a barebones kit last June 2011.   If I had know I was going to run into this trouble I believe I would have went Macintosh.

Correct my thinking if you see that I am not understanding something here.  And bear in mind I do not want excuses; I want the fix for this frustration.

Start -> control panel -> search sound -> Troubleshooting -> Find and fix audio playback problems.

The wizard applied a patch and my headset started working.
