Google gave me this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1337019/is-there-a-open-source-svg-windows-explorer-preview-extension.
Is there a Windows Explorer 7 extension for viewing .SVG files?
We are looking for a Windows Explorer 7 (NOT Windows Internet Explorer) extension for viewing thumbnails of SVG files in Windows Explorer. Is there a current extention available for SVG files that provides the same support as that natively provided for .JPG or .PNG files?
The SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) file format is an open standards format. This format is a very common format for downloading vector images from the internet. In many cases, this standard format is the only format available for downloading vector images from websites with large downloadable collections. It amazes us that Windows 7 Explorer doesn't have native support for such a common standard.
Internet searches commonly refer to the availability of an ADOBE extension for .SVG files, but that is for Internet Explorer, NOT for Windows Explorer. It is important that we be able to view thumbnails when viewing folders, just as we would expect with a JPG or PNG files. If there is not a free extension available, then what about a reasonably priced plug-in? We have heard a little bit about one called Mystic Thumbs, but know nothing about it or other options.
Thank you for any help with this issue.

2013-04-05T21:09:28+00:00 The SVG Explorer Viewer mentioned above:
http://code.google.com/p/svg-explorer-extension/
works perfectly! I first started using it on Windows 7 x64, and I now use it on Windows 8 x64.
I've never had a single problem with it! It installs in seconds, and I don't even have to reboot. (At least on Windows 8. I don't remember if that's true on Win7.)
And, unlike Mystic Thumbs, it's FREE! :-)

2012-08-24T11:11:58+00:00 You sure got me on that one, Jan, thanks! I couldn't believe how many times I referred to IE, especially after being fairly explicit above that my question was regarding Windows Explorer, not IE. I must have had Windows Explorer on the brain for some reason! Anyway, my mistake, sorry for the confusion. I have gone back and re-edited the reply so it reflects what I originally intended. Thanks again for the heads up.

2012-08-24T09:34:03+00:00 I am confused now! In your original post you say you do *not* want an Internet Explorer thing, and now you say you do?
I hope you find what you want. I don't really know anything about SVG and such.

2012-08-23T20:33:02+00:00 Thank you for the reply JR. Do you know anything at all about IrfanView or XnView products? We also found the following link at Google Code:

It looked promising as a simple add-in solution to Windows Explorer, but Norton Security blocked the installation as risky. At that juncture we weren't predisposed to allow the installation. Does anyone know about this plug-in?
What we would really like is a Windows Explorer plug-in that would allow us to view thumbnails for all the file types (or most of them) that currently cannot be viewed in Windows 7 Explorer. Is there such a product?
Finally, it seems odd that Microsoft would not support a free open standard like .SVG. After all, there are extensions or native support in Windows 7 Explorer for thumbnails of .PDF files, Corel .CPT raster files, and Corel .CDR vector files, for example.
The .SVG standard file format is often the download file type of choice (often the only choice) for downloading clipart from large collections on the internet. I would certainly be nice if thumbnail support was provided for Windows 7 Explorer.
