Note: you may not see an option to download for Lifecam vx-500 from the download list but you can update the driver software from the device manager, Follow the steps as per the article above.

Very helpful, apart from the fact that there are no links to drivers or software for the VX-500 on the Microsoft Product Support sites!

Driver files of LifeCam VX-500/VX-700 are already included in windows 7/8. 

You don't need to wander finding drivers for windows 7/8.

You can operate LifeCam VX-500 or VX-700 with 3rd party webcam software.

Without 3rd party software, you cannot operate it with other applications in windows 7/8(x86/x64).

There are many kinds of 3rd party webcam software like:

Cyberlink YouCam, WebcamMax, Dell Webcam Central(when LifeCam is attachted to Dell laptop), etc. Might be there far more. You name it.

Let me tell you that three of them what I've tested with works perfect.
