Driver download page (but the newest drivers are for XP - they probably will not work):

    http://support.visioneer.com/products/8900/downloads.asp

    Troubleshoot Compatibility

This can help with some (but not all) programs/drivers:

    1. Uninstall the program if it's already installed. Then when you install/reinstall it instead of double clicking on the install file right click it and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
    2. Then click "Try Recommended Settings" and in the next windows click "Start the Program" to install it.
    3. After it installs see if it works correctly. Please note - some programs may not be able to run in windows 7.

More details about how to make older programs run in this version of Windows:

Just for the benefit of anyone else trying to install drivers for the 8920 under windows seven...

It is possible to make this scanner work under Seven by using a combination of the default XP drivers and the TWAIN/WIA drivers for the newer 9450

    • Install the default OneTouch driver and utility (plug in the scanner when prompted)
    • Open the devices and printer window and verify that there is an unkown device listed at the bottom
    • Install the Vista/7/XP TWAIN/WIA driver for the Visioneer 9450
    • Right click on the unknown device
    • Select the hardware tab
    • Select properties
    • On the general tab select Change Settings
    • On the general tab click Update driver
    • Select Browse my computer for driver software.....
    • Select Let me pick from list of drivers.......
    • Select imaging device from the hardware list
    • Select Next
    • Browse list of manufacturers, select Visioneer
    • Select the oldest driver listed.
    • Press OK, OK, OK until all those windows are closed
    • Viola! your scanner should work!

    Visioneer 8920 working on Windows 8 64-bit !!

I basically used some form of these steps above to get my Visioneer 8920 scanner working under Windows 8 64-bit.  Yes, that's right, it works without a Virtual Machine!  I believe I found the same steps from a different thread originally, but they are mostly the same.  The only driver listed for me was the 9450, so I had to select that to get the OS fooled into recognizing that belonged with the unknown device.  However, from programs like Irfanview, I can select the original ScanManager Pro as the Twain source and scan with no problem.  Also, the OneTouch application will load and display in the system tray in desktop mode of Windows 8 (after completing the steps listed above of course).  If you install the original 8920 XP drivers in XP,  you will see an additional simpler Twain interface source available, but that simpler version is no longer available.  A newer form of that simpler interface is available as a result of installing the 9450 driver, but if you select that as the Twain source, it won't work.  I don't know if there is a way to fool the software somehow to get that one to work as well with the 8920, perhaps not if it is driver/scanner specific, but at least the original ScanManager Pro software (from the 8920 software install) will work!

Many thanks to JoabJ, or whoever originally discovered this solution!

Visioneer has not published a Windows 7 driver for the 8920, and the XP driver supplied with it does not work under Windows 7.  However, I have had success installing the XP driver in an XP virtual machine running under Windows 7.  Details are here.

It wont work under win7, it was designed for win9* through to winxp

And if your notebook has no cd/dvd how do you plan to recover win, if a problem occurs. What means of recovery has your notebook maker provided you with? (A hidden recovery partition is no good if the drive fails)
