My Device Manager tells me that I have installed a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, Driver Version 6.1.7600.16385 dated 21/06/2006.The Latest Driver Version is 8.950.0.0000 dated 14/02/2012. I have attempted numerous times to up date the new update on every occasion the update has corrupted the graphics. The resolution has reverted to 800x600 and the Start Button and Taskbar disappear altogether and cannot be restored. My only option to have aoperative system is to close the PC and start in Safe Mode so that a previous restore point can be selected.

Could any one assist in solving this problem?

The Standard VGA graphics adapter driver is the default driver Windows uses when it can't find the correct specific driver for the graphics card. It has very limited capabilities - such as low maximum resolution.

I suggest you install the latest Windows 7 driver specific to your graphics card. Get it from your PC manufacturer in the first instance or, failing that, the manufacturer of the graphics card. Common manufacturers of graphics cards/adapters are nVidia, Intel and AMD/ATi.
